What is OpenType?

The publishing community has long been looking forward to the day when someone can use a single font which will work in any environment. Well, it seems that day is finally here. Let me introduce you to OpenType. By combining font bitmap, metric and outline data into a single file format, OpenType is a new font format that will work on Windows, Mac OS, and most other operating systems.

OpenType is the marriage of the two most powerful and widely used font formats today, PostScript and TrueType, into a single font file. Developed by Adobe Systems Inc. and Microsoft Corporation, OpenType brings these two technologies together and extends them with new typographic and line layout capabilities. OpenType is the new standard for high quality type in print and on the web. The capabilities which OpenType will provide to font developers, application developers and end-users are truly exciting.

So, what about those old legacy fonts? What about those free fonts you downloaded years ago and are still using in your designs? Can they be conveted into OpenType?

FontXChange is a our new software application that can easily convert almost any font into a new modern OpenType font for you.

So, there you have it! Imagine no more missing fonts, font substitution, incompatibilites between computers - just one easy to use font file.
